Started opening day early just west of the railroad trestle Burlington side, my buddy was waiting for me with two great spots at 4. Fished a pink tiger spin n glo with mylar wings and sand shrimp. Only saw one bite before noon along the entire bar. I was getting antsy at lunch time and started messing around with my truck and gear at 130... Next thing I know I hear my bells jingling on my pole and turn around to see a bent rod! My friend runs to get the net while I play the fish but as it got in close to the bank it rolled hard and kicked the hook. big bright one. Oh we'll got some good action for 45sec or so. Shoulda played him a little more. Nothin doing the rest of the day so I headed out at 4.
Back on the bank Sunday morning, again no action. A lady fishing down the bar from me had her rod bend way down around 2 pm, she obv didn't have a clue so I ran over to help. Gave her a 12 second instruction on how to use her drag and keep the right amount of pressure on the line and with their net in my hand helped them land the only red I saw caught yesterday. Weighed in at 6lbs bright as can be. Beautiful fish, made me lust after the fighter I lost the previous afternoon. She had a single hook with shrimp tail and a small white clown spin n glo with stubby mylar wings.
It's early in the run plain and simple. It'll heat up soon! Tight lines!
