Hit the Bogachiel at 4:30 am on opening day. when we arrived there were already ten plus vehicles in the parking lot. After a short walk we were not surprised to see a very low, clear river.we're talking 18-24 inches deep and clear enough to see every rock in the river. But let's face it, no rain in ten days will do that.we knew it would be tough sledding today.I started out using a 1/8oz.jig under a float.the jig was a Mad river rubber worm red w/black tail.I saw a fish rise next to a large rock and cast to it.no takes.on the third cast bobber down, fish on! after two big jumps and a couple of nice runs I landed a chrome bright 8lb.buck.really nice hatchery fish! usually they are hooked in the upper lip but this dude inhaled my jig.it was way back in it's mouth.fished until 8:30 and called it, as the sun was now lighting up the river and the bite ended as fast as it started.I saw 6 fish caught in the 41/2 hours I was there.Although I fish the peninsula a lot throughout the year, I would like to thank W.D.F.W. for changing opening day from June 1st. to the first Sat. in June. as my wedding anniversary is June !st.(what was I thinking?!) so this was my first opening day over there in 11 years! Weeeee Haaaa! there are still nice springers to be had in the Sol Duc, they are scattered up and down the river.Tight lines,be safe, and pick up your garbage.
