Fished 06-07-14 and half of 06-08-14.
Got there around 1030 hours and worked my way up the Palouse river. Fished for Smallies on the way up which was On!. Caught about 15 fish ranging from 1lb to 3lbs, eventually calling it quits so I could finally make it up the river. I could have just bass fished all day and been happy. Hot lure of the day was a black curly tail grub with red flakes. Bigger fish came on a gold and black shad crankbait.
There were plenty of boats in the main part of the river. One boat was trolling for Walleye, several others focused on catfish, wake boarder, house boat, etc. Got into the smaller section of the river and found there were also plenty of boats there too.
I worked my way up the river fishing on both sides using cut bait with worms. I landed one bass, one perch, two small bullheads, and one very small (8"ish) channel cat. Heard one boat talking to another boat about landing a 4lb channel cat when trolling a spinner rig. At the Y there was a boat with two guys fishing for catfish. Saw them land a very small fish. They told me the large catfish were tough going right now and they were getting a bunch of dinks. As it got later in the day I worked my way out and back to the boat launch. On the way out (near dark) a boat with two older gentleman landed one decent size channel cat. Heard him yelling again a little later so assumed he'd gotten another.
This morning hit up to shoreline for some Smallies and then worked my way to the flats. I was surprised that it was only a little over 1' of water in the majority of the flats. Five minutes later my Uglystik bends over and Fish On! Landed a nice 3.5 channel cat on cut bait. I was lucky to land this fish as the hook was barely in it's flesh and all it took was a simple yank to free it. Cast in the same spot and five minutes later, Fish On!. Set the hook, the fish surfaced, swirled, and swam away. I could tell it was larger then the first one. Stayed there for a little while longer and then moved around on the flats. No further action after that. The wind started picking up so I hit the shoreline for some more Smallie action. I packed it up and called it a day after 15ish Smallies.
Over all a great trip. Also got within 15 yards of a doe, saw a coyote close up that was out in the open on a rock slide, and saw a bull snake.
