I was visiting family in Vancouver, WA and was within a 15 minute drive from the Washougal river. Brought my gear since it was close enough that I could pull off a quick half day on the river without getting too much heat from my wife. Headed out with my daughter Sunday morning and we got to the river at 6am. This was the first time I've been on the river so we worked our way going upriver hitting about 5 different spots.
The day was beautiful and sunny and we had a great time exploring the river however the water was very low and clear and being early in the season it seemed the summer runs hadn't pushed up yet. Found some great runs but not one bite all day. Ran into a pontoon fisherman coming downriver who hadn't had any luck either. He mentioned a couple summer runs had been taken very low in the river within the last week and he heard nightmare jigs and beads did the trick.
The Washougal river road provided great bank access and the water seemed best fished with a float and a jig with some good water for drift and spinner fishing with the low water level. Will have to try again if I'm in the area and the conditions are a bit better.
