Hit the Skykomish river for my first time today. Got to Reiter about 10 am and hiked downstream throwing spoons and floating a nightmare jig w/prawn. No bites for me but a guy across from me landed hatchery steelhead on a jig, looked about 4-5 lbs. I left around 2 pm and headed up hwy 2 to fish the confluence of the north and south forks. There is a nice big hole where the forks come together and I caught the biggest bull trout I've ever seen using a #2 blue fox spinner weighted with some pencil lead. It was about 23~24 inches long based on my pole length and looked to be at least 5 lbs. I guess its legal to keep one over 20" here but I let this beauty go free.

It looks sea-run from your picture. What a gorgeous fish - thank you for releasing it! I've always thought the "release under 20 inches" to be totally backwards if the goal is to build a trophy fishery for Dollys & Bulls. The Kenai has no-kill on Rainbow's or Dolly's over 20 inches. All Rainbow's there (no Steelhead) are resident fish so that wouldn't work on the Sky, but designating the river as trophy Dolly water would be an interesting experiment.

Yeah the Skykomish has been known to produce giant char, and it's a shame that large spawning adults are legal for taking. 20 inches should really be the maximum size, and a no-kill law would be optimal. Props for releasing the fish!
