Hit the Skykomish today with my brother and Hepker. We intended to fish Reiter on the highway side, but were running a little late. Changed our plan when we saw how crowded the parking area was. Looked to be 30+ cars! We ended up going down stream about a 1/2 mile and fished there from about 8:30 AM until Noon. Beautiful water, a few bumps, but no serious hookups. Took a break and had lunch. After lunch we decided to go back up and see what was happening on the highway side at Reiter. As we suspected a lot of people had left. There were 12 cars in the parking area. Decided to get our gear out and give it a shot. Hooked up on my third cast, but I didn't get a good hookset and the fish came unbuttoned after about 5 seconds (bummer...). About an hour and a half later and after throwing everything at them including the kitchen sink I decided to change up again and drifted a single orange corky. First cast, fish on!!! Turned out to be a nice little 5 lbs chrome hatchery hen. Glad to finally catch my first Skykomish River Steelhead. Fished for about another hour and decided to leave while we could still see the trail out.
