Fishing buddy Bruce M. and I launched the old bass tracker onto Mason County's Spencer Lake about 8:AM. It was a beautiful, sunny morning and the lake was as flat as a mirror. We decided to fish the little cove at the launch ramp. Throwing Rapalas we caught about 10 fish by the time we had fished around the point. Several were nice sized ranging from about 1 1/2 pounds to about 2 pounds. All this before we had even fired up the outboard. We cruised down the lake to another favorite spot and hooked several more bass and again were nice sized. Finally we hit the lake's favorite bassin' spot where Mike Carey hooked a couple of nice bass earlier in the year. This area was a little disappointing on this trip. It gets pounded heavily and there was another bass angler there when we arrived. We tried another shallow area with a reedy shoreline. The water was gin clear and only about 10 inches deep when a 3 pound, 17 inch beauty hit my floating Rapala. It was the biggest fish of the day but only by about a half pound or so. All fish, except 2 hit floating Rapalas. Those 2 fish hit a black jig. According to Bruce's count we had boated 20 bass and spotted several that wouldn't hit. A great morning on the lake. We moved over to nearby Phillips Lake. Check out Bruce's report on that lake.
