I awoke early this morning and with work having slowed to nothing for the past couple days, I took a look outside and took note of the light rain, cool temp and overall blustery conditions and smiled as I said to myself, "a great time to be fishin" So without any hesitation I grabbed my gear and lit out for my favorite spot on the Duw. Got there on the out going tide and started off with eggs under a float with no hits. The current was starting to pick up pretty good so i figured I would try something totally different. i had brought with me some jumbo shrimp that i had cured with fire brine red and looked so good I almost wanted to eat em and rigged one up on a 36" leader with a green corky from a half oz sinker on a dropper. First cast I'm feeling the bump bump and get the distinct pull and wiggle, go for the set and..the reel starts singin as this monster took me upriver and then down, a couple times just sat there head thrashing and rolling so hard my rod went from slapping the water to slapping my forehead. Well after what seemed like forever he finally tuckered out and what I thought for sure was going to be a big steelhead turned out to be my first ever big chum, nice bright buck. I fished on with only a couple of bites after that but I aint complaining.
