OK after getting skunked the past two days after work I am back into the action! Did my usual float fishing with home cured eggs; 3-2-1 with brown sugar. I ran into Nate Treat at the hatchery; always great to fish with Nate and BS little and see his different methods of fishing and what he is offering the fish. I am always learning more every time I fish.
Started out a little rough as I kept missing take downs, big take downs bobber all the way under water. As soon as Nate left I hooked up three casts in row. Losing one and landing two. A 10 LB hen and one 6 LB hen. A new leader and a few more misses later I hooked into a 8 LB buck and that was it for me! The small hen was very bright; the large hen was getting dark but still a keeper as far as I’m concerned.
Tight lines and good fishing!

Nice job, fishing by the hatchery? Did that fish have 3 skeins?

Nice day. All three look like keepers to me!

that fish had two skiens; one was trying to fall apart and it kinda looked like two. fishing the hatchery area. Water is not very high but there are fish in there!

Ok. I ask because I pulled a hen out of there the other day that a 2 large skeins and 1 smaller skein attatched to one of the larger skeins!? Weird?

Those are definitely keepers. Not too dark and meat still good I bet

What size leader did you have for your bobber and egg setup. I have some pink salmon eggs in the cure for my first time bobber and bait fishing on the wallace this weekend. I heard its a very simple but effective technique.

Why do salmon bite on eggs? They don't swallow them because their digestive system is permanently shut down.
Getting rid of the competition, perhaps?

HillbillyGeek,
yes that is correct, a survival instinct that make than bite the eggs so thier offspring have better change of survival. they may like the taste of them though as river fish seem to like things like sandshrimp or regular shrimp and/or scent put on lures or yarn..
