Decided to head out to the snoqualmie at tokul. My first time there. I'm pretty much an amateur when it comes to fishing. I was using blue focus spinners. Silver and brass. Caught a few smaller fish and one good size trout. Possibly a cutthroat. Decided to move down to the mouth of the raging river. Only had enough time for a few casts and landed a 15" rainbow. I want to learn how to steelhead. Any advice or input would be great. Also I'm on a tight budget so not looking to spend a fortune! Thanks for looking.

first off, switch to barbless single hooks on everything to avoid hurting fish that you dont want to keep and to avoid tickets (most places are selective fisheries these days). second, switch to fly fishing. It's much more rewarding in my opinion if you dont care about eating fish as much as just catching them.

thats probably a sea run cutt too, snoqualmie resident trout tend to not get bigger than 12"

I use single barbless hooks. And yes I'm looking into fly gear. First I have to convince my wife I need it. This was my first summer that I really spent time fishing and I am hooked! How do I tell the difference between a sea run cutt and a rainbow. Also any suggestions for fishing spots? I fished the cedar quite a bit this summer.

Not bad for an amateur! Nice fish. Steelhead are just ocean run Rainbow Trout and you're already in a good location to catch them, but the winter run on the Snoqualmie is the popular one. It'll be starting around November. You may be able to target them with the gear you have. If you haven't checked out the WashingtonLakes forum there is a lot of good info there and you can ask questions there too.
