Wow! What a fun fishery. I had the chance to take some folks up to the North Fork of the Stilly and fling some bugs for summer steel. This was a blast! It's great to get out of the waders and swing some flies for steelhead.
First thing in the morning we hooked up with a crazy feisty hatchery steelhead, on a five weight with a stonefly nymph. Best fish of the day. We worked our way upriver, and found a hole just packed with fish, by this time the sun was up and the bite had slowed down. We watch the fish swim around our flies and got a chance to see what was interesting them and what wasn't, when we had a big king come up and slam our nuclear egg on the dropper. Needless to say that was a losing battle on our steelhead gear, but man was it a blast.
We caught a nice big dollie on a Skykomish Sunrise (ironic, isn't it?) and let that one go. By the end of the day my guys were casting two handed and one handed like the pros.
If you've ever wanted to get into the fly side, this is a great time to pick up a bug rod! Not only do you get casting lessons, but you'll be able to catch fish too! I've got some dates available and we'll get you set up. Give me a call!
