Fished the Sol Duc this weekend from the bank. I have been "productive" according to the reports - ie averaging 1.5 fish a day most times I fish (which are usually weekend trips). Got mine this time using a drift set up. Long leaders are key when the water is clearing up. It was a beautiful weekend - I got 2 nice fish in the 10 pound category, and my dad nailed a solid 16 pounder on a bobber and jig where he basically drug the bobber over a nice boulder like you would if you were fly fishing... reminded me again that you really can catch fish just about any way possible. For all you guys who always love to rant about keeping a wild - my dads was indeed his one legal wild fish to keep, but it had already spawned (good news for future fish, ugly meat :( ). The fish I have out of water was a Snider Creek hatchery fish (they don't clip adipose fins), and the other I released in the water as it was a wild and I was above the legal zone. So please, save your comments.
Fishing is not red hot this year by any means, but if you put in the time you can produce some results. Every time I go out to the OP I find new spots to try - it truly is endless opportunity over there. I'm still waiting for my 20 pounder, and it keeps me coming back whenever I get the chance.
