Well we wanted to find some out of the way spots on the river to hit, so we did the out of the way, hike in back country tour of the Sky. We hit some sweet water, the river had perfect color to it and the fish were there, albeit not as jam packed with fish, we were all by ourselves.
That's what it's all about any ways. We were throwing jigs and float and bait to start out with, and went through the gamut of techniques. Within the first few minutes we had fish on on the float rod which was pretty exciting. After a short fight, we LDR'd it, but practice makes perfect right?
After some more touring around we found a few more fish camped out, a lot of red coho and some untouched water. Later in the day we were swing some purple and black intruders through another vacant section of river and had a fish hammer the fly as my guy was stripping it in. That's probably the most surprising and unsettling strike you could ever get, it was pretty epic.
All in all, not red hot, but my guys got the tour of the less than ordinary spots, and there are some fish in the lower river still so that's a plus. For the die hard angler willing to put some wear on their boots there are still some places where you can escape the crowds of the terminal hatchery zone.
