Picked up my first baitcaster (Daiwa Exceler) on thursday and wanted to get out and break it in. Pulled up to my cabin on the river and threw on a blue-fox in-line spinner. Spent most of the day pulling out birdnests but eventually learned how to use my new reel effectively. After a few hours of fishing up and down the river I found a spot that looked like it held some fish that weren't spawning coho. After a few minutes I got a bite and it came in pretty easily. It turned out to be a coho after all, released right away so there wasn't any harm. Looks like there was some steelhead in there, just couldn't get them to bite. Still have yet to catch my first steelhead, but at least this was a bit of a confidence boost.
