Great day fishing the Sol Duc with my brother-in-law and guide Mike Schmitz of West Coast Outfitters. No sooner got the plugs in the water than wham! fish on! After a minor tackle episode managed to land a chrome 9lb native. About an hour later, my b.i.l. hooks a fish that could have been a twin of the first: 9lb native. After time spent pulling plugs, we switched to float and jig with a little sand shrimp to add flavor. No steelhead, but my buddy caught a couple of beautiful sea-run cutthroat. Went back to plugging it and after a while my b.i.l. caught the last fish of the day, a nice 10-11 lb native. No Snider fish to take home, but what a great day! Saw a herd of elk cross the river, otters playing, eagles, etc. Plus, we saw only two other boats on the river all day. Sure beats the crowds at Reiter! Looking forward to a trip next year with Mike. He's an artist with the oars!
