Finally got out to do our first winter steelhead fishing trip of the season. The weather did not disappoint. It rained, hailed, sleeted, and snowed. The fishing on the other hand.. We started the morning out at the wallace. There was already plenty of other fishermen there, which was a little surprising since it was a weekday. Saw one chum caught and someone said they caught a coho earlier, but no steel. I caught a big ol whitefish that was spitting eggs all over, and I hooked into another bigger fish but after a few head shakes it was gone. So about 1pm we decided to head up to Reiter to see if anything was going on. We arrived to see groups of fishermen leaving empty handed. Not a good sign. We got down there and people said tough day as we walked past. it was a little dreary, and it was sleeting good. Close to dark a guy hooked up which got everyone excited. But after a bit he lost it, but he got it close enough to see that it was wild. I caught a big sucker fish, which was one of the most pathetic fish to get. It was the first sucker fish Ive caught which was cool, but it didnt even take my bobber down or put up a fight. I was just reeling in after a drift and it mustve been swimming towards me because it didnt create any tension at all. so I got no fight or excitement, just a big ol sucker fish. But I cant wait to get out and try again! Used bobber and jigs all day, my hands were usually way too cold to tie anything else on.
