These last couple of days we've been fishing the green river from Auburn up to the gorge. It's been a lot of fun! The river is packed full of chum, no matter where you end up at. We've been nailing 10 or 20 a day, and it's been a lot of fun pulling on these feisty guys. Coho are in thick, especially in the area around Sooes Creek, and we've still be getting a few chromers to the net. We've hooked a few steelhead as well, which bodes swell for the upcoming winter run.
The best tactics have been floating a jig and shrimp in yellow/pink combinations. Chartreuse and black yarn with sandshrimp oil has been picking up a lot of fish. Green tipped Dick Nite spoons have been performing as well.
Swinging flies in the same color combinations has really made this time of year a lot of fun. There's something about playing a chum on a two-hand fly rod that makes them ten times more fun! These big fish are going to be here for a while too, so they'll fill the time between steelhead season and the end of the Coho run.
I still have some days open if you'd like to get out. Don't forget that I have my discounted holiday gift certificate rates! While the weather may be turning to winter, there are plenty of fish out there to fight and keep the adrenaline pumping!
