Well, a little bit late but the site was down while we were fishing! We fished the Skagit starting at first light, drifted roe, through corkies and dick nights, bobber and jigs. The first hour of daylight the bite was pretty good, as the sun came up we saw it slow down, but remain steady at about a fish every half hour or so. These Skagit fish have been tons more cooperative than their Snohomish system cousins, and have made for great sport. While they aren't going to be as easy pickings as they would be if we had some color and water in the system, if you work them hard and well you'll definitely find some players. Trick has been to lighten up on your tackle, try different tactics when the bite settles down and then cover some more water until you find the fish. Some of these guys have been in the system for a while, but there is a very nice ratio of chrome to blush. They aren't fire trucks yet even when they've got some color so that's making it a lot of fun. Have some dates open in the next few weeks, but they won't last long! If you're looking to hone your game on some fish that are more likely to bite, this is the time to do it. As we all know, first rain and it's game on, but these Skagit fish are cooperating ten times better than the Snoho fish! As always I'd like to thank Eric for fishing with me and making this a fun day of fishing!
