On a lighter note I caught my first summer run steelie in 3 years on Sunday. We started at the lyre first light with no luck and headed toward the hoko but it was so low we didn't even try to fish it. So the back up plan is hit the big rivers.

After getting the skunk on the sol duc at the rayonier and bark holes we agreed for a last ditch effort on the calawah. I've never been up to the ponds so my buddy led the way. When we got there I was very skeptical, the river is extremely low and clear... Tossing some eggs would be a waste to me so I decided to trout fish with a #2 pink blue fox. After an hour of shankers following my lure we found a deeper area somewhat up river from the ponds. I cast out and suddenly this dark figure comes out of nowhere and smashes the spinner. FISH ON! It was a hell of a fight, I could barely hold on to it with 6lb line. Jumped 4 or 5 times and finally got it to shore and its a nice 5 - 6lb hatchery buck, no way that just happened!

My friend caught another an hour later but it was wild. On our way back we passed a school of 8 - 10 but they were spooked so we called it a day. No one else around which is suprising for a sunday. Im pretty sure I got really lucky with this one.

Pretty crazy how low the rivers are, but I sure have been enjoying the river-systems in the foothills. Plenty of action in those zones even in record-low waterflow!

Did you hear any news of Silvers in the Hoh or Sol duc?
