After falling in the river yesterday after only about 5 minutes at the river after work, I drove into Redmond for lunch today and snuck my way into the senior center parking behind the poilice station and parked. walked down the path 20yds to the 90th st bridge, went under and started casting a black/red with white feather dry fly to the rising trout.. 15 minutes in bam! fish slammed my fly, it was cool to watch it take it, I giggled as i worked it into the shore so i could snap a quick pic and let it go. 15 minutes later I had another slam but lost this one soon after. 15 minutes later i left and came back to work.

(besides falling in the river last night after 5 minutes) 1st fish on my 1st fly rod setup and 1st time out using it.. only 5 minutes from work.. i think i will be back.

It's awesome to have a place to fish that is right within proximity to work/and your lunch hour. I used to have that with Totem lake in Kirkland. Whether or not you catch fish.... what a release it is to go be casting and hanging out at the water, when you might have just been sitting at a break room table eating a sandwhich and listening to co-workers gripe about the manager. That Sammamish river seems to have lit up for people this summer.

the fish i'd say was 8/9", bigger than i had expected and loaded with fight.. there were a bunch lurking under the bridges escaping the sun..

true that, Quad! when i worked downtown i used to run down to a few spots on the duwamish when the salmon run.. just found this spot and i;m eager to keep hitting small creeks;/rivers with the fly setup..

The only draw back is the Sammamish river will close Aug 31st and open up again in Jan 1st. Enjoy your catching while you can.

just starting to fly fish so i am not sure of many good smaller river/creeks to throw flies yet.. and with the Snoho opening this coming weekend.. my gears are shifting..
the Sammamish is loaded with small trout, I took my wife and kid for a walk down the river yesterday and my wife saw all the fish rising, she went back to the jeep and grabbed my small spinning setup, casted a small mepps in to a hole for only like 5 minutes and pulled out a nice little 8" rainbow. .. i'll hit is a couple lunch days maybe this week before it closes... thats a shame! i just found a close to work spot for lunch fishing, now is gonna close..
