The day started at 12:30am when someone rang my house and hung up. I was awake and couldn’t go back to sleep even though my alarm was set for 2:30am. So I got up and checked weather.com and did some others things and left the house for the Cowlitz River at 3:30am to meet blurock (Bri) at 5. Well we were both a little late but really it was perfect timing.
We pushed off with the hopes of limits but it wasn’t meant to be. It was slow. A sucker fish some cutthroat and I caught the dog. Yes, I managed to hook the canine aboard. Safely released. Now really, don’t you admit that takes talent?
Blurock got the only steelhead, Cody steered the boat and I successfully netted my first steelhead. I made her promise not to be mad if I knocked it off. She hooked her steelhead on a yarn ball (yarnie) she tied . We spent most of the time below Blue Creek.
I had to leave around 12:30 with a sore back and tremendous tiredness. My 5 hour energy drink I took at 7 wore off. I had to stop and get another to ensure I could get home without sleeping at the wheel.
I left them still fishing. Hopefully there will be a better report.
