Gringo Pescador and I decided yesterday would be the day to hit the Skykomish as it was dropping into shape from the recent rains. We were concerned the warm weather would cause the river to rise later in the week and that looks to be true. We got to the river just after 5 AM and set up shop in a fishy looking area. River was high but in good shape and weather was perfect except for a gusty wind that made float fishing tougher than it needed to be. Gringo hit an older native around 6 AM on a spoon and I hit a brighter nate around a half hour later on a jig that popped off just as I was grabbing the leader to shake her off. Not much action after that except I think I saw NWRH land a nice hatchery fish around 8:30. He packed up and left so we started to fish our way back to the car. Wind had died down so the conditions were perfect but no luck until I hit this bright hen around 12:30 PM. Definitely caught me by surprise after all the slow fishing but I got enough of a hookset to land her. A beautiful day with a happy ending for me.
