Hit the Clearwater River for the weekend with two friends and had beautiful weather both days. This time of year attracts a lot of fisherman but we managed to find some good spots even though it was shoulder-to-shoulder at times. Fishing wasn't hot, but we ended up bringing home 3 hatchery fish and released 3 nice wild fish. Had a few other missed take downs. Caught most of our fish on orange beads and it looked like most fisherman catching fish were using beads as well. Took us awhile to figure out our depth, but once we did our success improved. Also, still trying to figure out how to fish with beads and the right setup since beads seem to be outfishing marabou jigs 2 to 1 right now.

What depth were you fishing? I always fish beads and I find the depth to your weight above the bead (split shot) is more important then the depth to your bead. I believe that is important because the bead floats behind behind the weight.

What depth were you fishing to your bead and how far up your line was your weight? I also use a jig and tie a bead under my jig ~12 inches. It doubles your chance of catching fish. Sometimes it is the jig but most times it is the bead.

KCDEIFE: We were fishing around 8 to 10.5 ft deep. I agree with you, the depth to your spit shot is much more important than the depth to your bead. Also, I was playing around with the distance between my bead and split shot and wish I could give you more info. had I caught more fish. However, I try to keep this distance at least 6 inches and go up to 18 inches. I have used beads as a dropper below a jig and I agree it significantly increases your chances of catching fish, however, it also causes a lot of tangles and twist if you have to cast further out so out of frustration I have resorted back to just one bead or one jig. I have also tried a two bead setup (at different depths) with good success as well, but it also tangles a lot. Do you have any suggestions for minimizing tangles with a two hook setup?
