Merry Christmas Everyone! We went to the Cowlitz with high expections but when we arrived at the parking lot we saw the water level was low. All of my expections were gone. I told my son that we were going to find the deepest holes that we can get to. So we headed down to the point only to find out that it was shoulder to shoulder already but we give it a try. An hour later, my son hooked one but it popped off. More fishermen showed up so we moved to the mouth of Blue Creek. I hooked one but it broke off. I told my son to go up river, about 100 yards, where the tail out is. Ten minutes later he lands the first steely of the day. About an hour later he lands his second one. I went up to where he was and few cast later I landed my first steelhead for the day. Then, the fishermen saw us landing some fish and they moved to where we were fishing. Shortly after the elbow to elbow, I landed my second steely and we were done. The water is so low and clear that one of my friends thought of crossing the narrow part of the river but i told him not to do it; it's not worth going across, even though he's done it before during the summer time. A lot of gear was lost because the water is so low. Check out the steelies we got!
