Spent the day with Nate checking out different locations on the Green. We started by the soccer fields in Auburn, but the water was pretty high and kinda off color, so moved farther up river. Soos creek had some chum bing caught, mostly darker but a couple not too bad, mainly by a guy twitching jigs that was in the zone. We moved from there to Metzler, which proved to be nicer looking water. Unfortunately the chum didn't seem to be around much. NO one we spoke to had any luck. While we were the a nice older couple caught a chrome bright steelhead in the 10 pound range on a pink jig under a float - wow! That caught our interest. We fished this area for awhile longer but moved on to our final destination of the day, Hangling Gardens, upstream from the Icicle hatchery. The half mile hike in was well worth it. What a beautiful, secluded location! Water looked great, again, a bit high and fast man, it sure had possibilities. We worked the water with jigs under floats, drift fishing corkies, spoons, and spinners. Nada. Nate briefly had a bobber down and head shake but could get the hook to set. With this location we ran out of day. Thanks Nate for taking me to some cool locations. I hadn't been to the Green in many many years and it was pretty fun to check out all those locations. We'll get em next time!

As often as you get to go fishing, and as often as you catch fish, it is good that you had a day like this. It brings your average down to match some of the rest of us....nice report.

The Metzler Drift used to be one on my favorites. Caught several nice steelies there. Glad you had the opportunity to get out and enjoy one of the most famous of Washington State's steelhead rivers.

Like bob J. said, Metzler used to be an outstanding drift. That was around 1992. I caught a lot of steelhead from that spot also.

Man the green has been tricky lately. But getting skunked is a pretty bad day for me, but when it happens it always gives you a bit of perspective.

Sounds like you were arriving at Metzlers right about the time I was giving up on it. Would have liked to have met some board members but I bet if I saw that steelhead caught I would not have left there. In past years Metzlers was very consistent for chum but it has been spotty at best this year. Will still keep it on the list for steelheading because it is a nice stretch of water with minimal snags and I have had success in the past there.

thanks all. Just goes to show there's more to steelheading then catching. Amazing day of scenic locations.

Well done, both of you! I just got back into town tonight or techinically yesterday evening (12:05am now) and I had been wondering how the pursuit of chum and/or steelies has been going.
