Another awesome trip to the coast and it produced big time.
Headed out to Forks early Sunday and fished till Tuesday mid day on the ole Sol Duc. Sunday was an ok day ended up hooking and landing 5 silvers all fire trucks not a single keeper among the bunch at the hatchery. The only thing that was working was eggs they wouldnt touch anything else.
Monday i headed down river in hopes of finding some fresher fish. It was dead almost all day. The water was very low and clear and the fish were just not biting. I had the Bark Hole all to myself for a good part of the day until some loser snaggers showed up. They hooked well over a dozen fish all snagged and they bonked atleast half of them. As far as i could tell they were using a hook and weight just above it, they would cast out and swing for the fences. I finally managed to hook a nice 20lbs king on a homemade jig and landed it. One of the guys in the boat shouted out "bout time ya got one" and "i responded atleast im not snaggin them". The guy gave me the finger and they took off. Alittle while later i snapped my new Okuma SST in half on a snag and called it a day. Short story Monday sucked.
Tuesday started off bad. Lots of fish but no biters. Frustrated i moved upstream to my favorite spot and things turned around fast. First cast on my homemade jig and fish on! A nice 18lbs king and i love it when i catch them on a hand tied lure. Fished the jig another 30 minutes and nothing so i switched to eggs and it was game on again. First cast and 20lbs king and after that on the very next cast another big king. I released both as they were a tad dark. I had one last bunch bunch of eggs so i baited the hook and let her fly and thats when things got crazy. Something slammed the eggs just as they hit the bottom and it took off. After 5 minutes of big runs it settled down and just sat on the bottom and i knew i had something good. It took another 15 minutes to get it up and when i first saw it i just about pooped my pants, it was huge! Got him in and it had to be atlest a 35lbs+ king if not more. He was pretty dark so i let him go but i wish i knew how big it really was. I also wish i knew what eggs i was using. I had marked the bag but the ink wore off. That small bag of homemade eggs caught 3 kings back to back to back. On a massive high i hit the hatchery and landed 2 more silvers and also managed a small late summer steelhead. I included a pick of one of the 20lbs kings and the monster king so you can see the difference in size.
