This report is for 23rd,24th,25th (i know its late but what ya gonna do).

So after the heavy rain that fell i knew it was time for the annual trip out to Forks and to hit the Sol Duc. This river is by far my favorite i try to make it out atleast 3 times a year but time has been hard to come by. Luckly my timing was almost perfect.

Started fishing Sunday and things started off slow nothing for the first 4 hours at my secret hole. Lots of fish just no takers. Moved just downstream and switched to eggs and it was game on. Second drift nailed a nice silver hen around 8-9lbs. Then things went dead again for a few hours. Packed up and went way downstream to a very popular hole that turned out to be the place to be. On my 3rd drift with eggs and bam 22lbs hen King that took about 15 minutes to bring in. After that i lost 2 more. 1 was only on a few seconds that other gave a good run and then 3 hard down head shakes and it came loose. Reeled in and it bent my hook straight as an arrow. Later i hooked a nice silver that went bat s**t crazy and after a few jumps it looked like it had rolled up in my line and it eventually broke.

Next day turned out to be a awesome day. Went to the same hole and missed 1 fish and another spit the hook both were likely kings. With some patience i managed to landed another 20+lbs king about an hour later. Things cooled off so i went upstream to my secret hole and within 30 minutes i had landed 1 jack king, lost another crazy silver due to high flying leaps, and landed another 20+lbs king. After that i hit camp for dinner and then came back out for the sunset bite. I managed to hook another silver and a king both of which spit the hook after a 3-4 minute fight. Frustrated by the mass lost fish of the day i called it quits.

Next day i only had a few hours to fish so i hit my secret hole and once again managed to lose another silver. I tell ya those silvers out there are big, fast, and nutty when you hook them. With the final hour i had i went back downstream were i just managed to beat a guy to my favorite spot and it payed off with another 20+lbs king to wrap up the trip.

So in total i went 6 for 14 or so with 1 jack king, 1 silver, and 4 20+lbs kings. A very good trip that could have been epic it it wasnt for all the lost fish. I think i need to work on my hook set technique i have a tendancy to drop my arm to the side when i hook set and not a straight up and down motion and i think that costs me. Besides eggs there was one technique that was knocking them dead and i had noticed that i was one of the only people using it. Just about everybody else was tossing spinners and i didnt throw a single one. Its getting late in the season but i may try for one more trip.

I highly recommend you fish the Sol Duc once in your life. It can be a tough place because the bank access is limited. It has taken me years to find all the holes and every year i find a new one. The fish in this river are always big, strong, and return in excellent numbers. I have caught the biggest kings, silvers, and steelhead of my life here. Also the fishing is almost year round for salmon and steelhead. And most of all it is a beautiful place to be the banks are lined with moss covered trees and the water is amazing.

Awesome report and some great looking fish. Thanks for sharing! I love that river and literally just got back from it an hour ago. Yesterday was slow for everyone else, but somehow managed to go 2 for 6, landing 2 - 20lbs kings. Such beautiful fish and definitively put up a fight. Well worth the drive. We lucked out and a kind local drove us to his favorite hole called the "mud" hole. Absolutely beautiful and some of the best fishing I have ever experienced. Wished we could have stayed through tomorrow. Should be perfect!
