First trip of the season for us down on the Clearwater River and we had a lot of anticipation for a great day to kick off the season. There were not a lot of people on the river and that could be because there didn't seem to be a lot of fish upriver yet. However, there were a ton of fly fisherman on the water, must be a geat time for them to catch steelhead with the river being so low. Anyway, I had four take downs today. One was not well hooked and got off within 10 seconds. One was a really bright fish and jumped out of the water multiple times and eventually broke the knot at the jig, I landed the other two and of course the much bigger one was wild so he went back unharmed. I also caught three big whitefish that were released, but they still gave me a good adrenaline rush when they pulled the float under. The picture on the right is my dad fighting his only fish of the day, which was a big wild buck and was released. The weather was overcast, mild and very comfortable all day long. I can't wait to go again since the fishing is only going to get better in the upcoming months!
