Went down to the river for 45 mintues today. Pretty slow. Managed a pretty big Hen and Buck both pink and then about 10 minutes before I left I popped a healthy Jack coho. Little guy was probably around 18 inches and 2 lbs. Not quite big enough for me to keep but getting there. So with a little coho fever I stuck around and 5 minutes later popped a nice bright hen. Caught them all on this new jig pattern I am tying. It seems to be smashing them on a few other rivers and has done pretty well on the Green too.

Are you drifting it under a bobber or jigging in holes where they are holding? Great looking jig.

Nice job! I havne't gotten one with a jig yet, I've definitely tried when they were there. Are you fishing the upper or lower Green? Haven't seen anything on the lower Green for a couple of days.

It is hard to beat the feeling of catchin' them with home tied gear. Good lookin' jig. Thanks for the pic.

@dartdwart - jigging in holes where they are holding. I guess floating jigs works ok for steelhead but I have no luck with coho under a float mainly because they are not interested in the jig unless they are held up, when they are on the move the jig is not the weapon of choice.
@kzoo - I have been hitting a few spots in Kent within a few miles of where I work.

Thanks for sharing JJ! That's the only time I run into coho when I'm floating with a jig for steelhead; however they're typically boots by then!

Of course they are not going to get bigger. I think that for the most part people toss them back because they want a prime fish for either eating or smokin. Jacks don't have much meat and honestly once filleted they are pretty wasteful. If I am going to use a slot on my card it is not on a jack unless that little guy is big enough to serve up. In general I don't keep fish unless I am going to eat them. The few times I keep jacks it is either cuz I am camping and they do make great pan fish or because a friend wants to take one home, or if I am on a river where DFW wants them gone. Then I will do my part to help out. But on the green that is not the case.
