I will again rate this as a 4 because it was my second Silver and the first time I have ever caught a fish “drift fishing” I fished the Stilly just downstream of Sivana. On my walk to the river I passed a fellow fisherman carrying a Silver so I asked him what they were biting on, he told me that a brass Dick Nite hard worked for him this past week. Upon my arrival at the river I found many fishermen all bunched up at the bend. There was plenty of room just upstream above them so that was my spot. I tied a sliding dropper with about 8” line to the weight and a 4’ leader with a #1 brass Dick Nite. This spot is great as it has sand/gravel bottom with no rocks to slip on, I wadded out started my slight upstream cast and let the set up drift. There were lots of fish jumping. Within ½ hour I had my fish on which put up an average fight. Right after I dragged her onto the shore she came off the hook. The hook was bent, I was very lucky to get this fish in. I landed a bright hen with 1 pound of eggs in her which are no curing for Steelhead. I filleted her and made a mesh of that as this the first fish I have filleted in over 30 years and the first Salmon. My fillets weighed 3 pounds, 1 pound of eggs; I left a lot of good meat on the fish. The was fish at least seven pounds.

We were there all weekend. Some nice fish being pulled out. Have to say Saturday the bite was on. Not much luck on Sunday. Nice coho!

If you cut steaks instead of fillets its harder to mess up. Just cut straight down instead of front to back. It's an op[tion, then practice filleting trout this spring. they are hardercause they are small but you'd much rather waste a few dink trout than a Nice silver!!

Surprised there is not a lot more post about the barbed hook. I'm with you on the filleting though. Haven't got a silver yet but I sure got to practice on the pinks on the Puyallup. Still not the best but have gotten a lot better at it.
