After several tries last year and 2 previous tries this year I finally got my 1st Snohomish river coho. Launched at Rotary at 7:30am and ran upstream to the big sand wall. Trolled between there and the Highway 9 bridge 3 times. Started with a Brad's Wiggler, nothing. Then went through 2 different Dick Nites and still no bites. Switched back to the wiggler about 11:30 and started trolling back to where I dropped my crawdad trap, with the intention of trolling back to the boat launch because I was running low on gas. After 3 passes through the area where I left my trap, I came to the conclusion it had been stolen. I threw my wiggler back out and was half paying attention while trolling and cleaning my boat up in frustration, getting it ready to go home. Then suddenly my rod starts dancing and I see a fish jump behind the boat with my line in its mouth. After a pretty good fight I managed to get it in the net. Not a huge fish, about 7 pounds, but more than enough to boost my spirits. Funny how a single fish can cause such a dramatic mood swing lol. Trolled for about another hour with no bites before running back to the boat launch on fumes.

Nothing like the ups and downs and sudden out-of-nowhere shocks during coho salmon fishing :-) Bummer on the crawdad trap though. Hopefully that coho makes up for it especially as a first coho of the season!

Oh yea I am very happy with the trip overall. It was just one of those small cheap crawdad traps so its not a big deal, just don't like getting stolen from. This was my 1st coho on light gear, I have only fished for coho in the saltwater before and with no downriggers it takes alot of heavy gear to get your lure in front of a fish, so with nothing but a crankbait and 12 lb test line between me and the fish it was quite a thrill! It's the same pole I used for humpies but they just don't compare to a feisty coho. Can't wait to get out some more and hopefully catch some more!
