Got onto Offut at approx 0630. Flat-lined a nickel/nickel Dick Nite around the entire lake with no luck, until about 1000. Then landed, (and released), two 15" to 16" rainbows, (and lost two more), near the lilly pads, at the east end of the lake, in about 10' of water. I assume the rainbows were triploids. They were extremely fat.
I was surprised not to pick up any small plants. I have never had such bad luck at Offut. I always pick up several small, 10" to 12" rainbows. Even during the hottest months. Everyone I talked to said that it is real slow this year for some reason.
Can anyone tell me why eating a triploid, or any other planted trout, would be any different from eating farm-raised fish? Aren't they raised in a hatchery and fed cat food, (or whatever), until they are full-sized?
