So I slept in for the opener and spent an extra 40 minutes in traffic, but it was worth it.
The fish weren't on fire, but I got 4 and hooked about 15 fish. Started fishing at 9 AM and finished at 2 PM. It wasn't rapid fire, but I could rely on consistent hookups.
The surprise of the day that made this a 5 star day was the big fat king I landed. I was fishing with pink gear, my 6-10 9" loomis UL steelhead series and all of a sudden at the end of the drift as I'm reeling up, WHAM!!!!!! Fish on!
It starts taking line like I hooked into a freight train. Sheesh. I was only using ten pound test, so I daren't put the thumbs to him and break off or bust my pole. He shoots 100 yards down stream and just my luck, dude just getting there casts straight over my line. Of course I though I was fishing by myself so I didn't yell out at first, but at this point I'm like "FISH ON!!! DUDE YOU JUST CAST OVER ME!" Luckily he was one hell of a nice guy and when he realized I had this big one on, he simply cut his line. I finally managed to gain on this fish, and man, it was a monster, and after playing it for 20 minutes or so I got it to roll over at my feet. Probably about 22 pounds. I waded out and scooped it up with both arms, I didn't bring the net. I was using my secret bait, it hooks up with fish everytime. It's the last thing you'd think of using and also hard to find, but ask me if I run into you on the river and I'll tell you what it is.
Solid day, my phone died so no pics of the chinook uncleaned, but I did get a couple shots of the pinks. My wrist and arms are sore as heck, but checkout my freezer!
