Took a couple trips up to the PO river this past week, had our #2 grandson today and had a great time with him. Just wanted to mention we witnessed a 27lb pike landed in Campbell slough last Thursday evening by a young man using herring. We've been catching some here and there, mostly in the 3-6 lb range and missed a few over 30" again, my grandson almost had his first Pike to the boat with his Batman pole but as I was just about to grab the fish his line snapped above the leader, looked to be a good 5-6 lber and a real pole bender as you can see in the pic! I also noticed on the LMB I caught today, had worn out bottom fins like it was spawning, come to find out they are, found a few beds in the sloughs and coves with bass on them. Enjoying the great weather, happy fishing to everyone!

Bummer to hear about the one that got away but you and your grandson will get him next time. Sounds like a good trip and certainly something to remember. Thanks for the report

Sounds like you guys had a good time. How does the main river look now for fishing? Is it really fishable yet or did you just stick to the sloughs??

@ sparky1doug, Unfortunatley I don't think he released the 27lber, I tried to talk him into taking a pic and releasing it but he was very determined to mount it, and after he weighed it vertical, dropped it on the boat floor (his family was screaming and freaking out) then dragged it behind his boat, I'm not sure if it would have survived. @ Mark K, the main river current seems to be slowing a little, should be fine depending on lb of thrust your trolling motor is and the wind, seems like we've hit all the windy days! I have a 55lb thrust on mine and it seems to do pretty well on setting 4-6 on the main river. Oh, not sure of the other lakes and rivers but the Deer flys are really bad in the sloughs, deep woods off didn't even work!

Jim, It's good to see the kids getting a chance to fish with grandpa. Keep them out there. It helps keep them out of trouble. Sounds like you had a great trip. Happy Fishing
