Hit the Green today hunting for summer steel with no luck. Started out just above the log jam and nothing happening there. Just managed to lose my favorite rvrfshr 50/50 hammered spoon. After that headed way east up to Kanaskat-Palmer and fished every hole there with no luck just a few tiny smolts hooked. Not even sure if there are summer steel up here that far anymore with Palmer ponds closed. After that i made the trek down to Icy Creek and again no luck just a few smolts hooked. On my way out got the crap scared out of me by a rottweiler who belonged to somebody caring for the fish at the pens. The dog came charging after me as i was half way up the hill. I drifted yarn balls, dick-nites, pink worm, and tossed a spinner during the course of the days fishing.

Anybody know if there are steelhead still up at Palmer? I know the pens closed in summer 2009 so i am wondering if they released one last batch of smolts that would be returning this year. The 2009 smolt plant report shows 30,000+ released at Soos and 77,000+ released at Mainstem (i not sure what Mainstem means).

Funny that you mention that, I was at green river today myself drift fishing right before flaming geyser. Tried everything from jig under a bobber, corky and yarn and dick nites. The smolts were chasing after the dick nites though. Other than the smolts no other bites. Any other good spots around green river?

The thing about the green is that there are good spots all over the place and good access. I usually start around the log jam and work my way up. The smolts are wacky i caught a 2" smolt on a yarn ball the size of a quarter.

They are still releasing some fish up there not near as many as at Soos creek though. Thanks for the report.

Sad that this river is so dead. I have fished it a few times this year and havent caught/seen any steelhead. Guess we'll have to wait for the pinks to enjoy the river..
