Had nothing to do before work so I hit up the Sammamish River in Woodinville to see if I could pick up some Northern Pikeminnow. They are garbage fish but actually are pretty fun to catch and tend to get pretty big. Anyway, got out there right at noon when the sun was beaming. Saw a bunch swimming around as well as some fish with long, horizontal stripes on them. I think they might be Peamouth Chub? Threw out a 6" black/blue tail powerworm and on my 3rd cast, got a nice Minnow. Felt like about 1lb or so. Switched to a smaller purple powerworm and another black/blue powerworm setup that resulted in nothing. Tried a green 4" swimbait and had a nice 2lb Minnow on. The thing hit hard and jumped 1-2 feet out of the water. Caught me off guard but lots of fun!

Switched spots and threw on that purple powerworm again. Got hit HARD immediately. Pulled in another Minnow that had to be a little over 3lbs. Wow those things fight. I was using a medium action trout rod on 6lb test. Fun times. Anybody try eating these? They get so big and eat crawfish and baby fish. How bad can they be? Fun stuff....time to get some bass!

I was just talking to another forum member on here who has eaten a pike minnow. He said they taste like dirt, and are very mushy.

WDFW posts signs in some parks in the Seattle area (Log Boom is one) warning anglers to not eat northern pike minnows at all. They are high end predators and thus have high concentrations of toxins in their tissues. Eating one won't kill you, much like sucking on a lead pipe won't kill you, at least right away. But it will mess you up good in the long run. Given how nasty it tastes and looks, you have a lot to lose and nothing really to gain by eating one.

Yeah I've seen some of those signs Lord Of The Fly. I figured it wasn't the best idea to eat them but wanted to make sure. Oh well...it's still fun to catch them when you're bored. I assume it's the same way with Carp? haha those things look like monsters swimming around.
