I had a little time in the late afternoon to get outside in between rain showers, so I drove over to the Sammamish river regional park to try a little fishing in the slough. Fished for about an hour throwing a silver Dick Nite and a gold Kastmaster. Tried several points along the bank, but no luck other spotting a muskrat and some sort of a small hawk.
While I was fishing, my girlfriend was walking our dog (a Westie puppy) back and forth on the Sammamish river trail just behind me. As I was packing up to leave, a pitbull who was jogging with his owner without a leash tried to attack our dog. The pitbull pinned our dog down twice before our dog managed to get away, but he was so scared he ran into the river and tried swimming to get away. Since he was just a puppy, I didn't know if he could swim or not, so I had to dive into the river after him and pull him out. During all this, the owner of the pitbull did nothing to stop his dog until after mine got away into the river. The owner ran away with his dog after I threatened to call the cops, but not before he asked if "I wanted him to kick my butt" (that's the censored version) and giving me the middle finger.
I wrote all this down as a warning to anybody who walks or fishes along that section of the trail. If you see a skinny white teenager (I'd guess between 16 and 18 years old) with an average sized black and white pitbull without a leash, be very careful, especially if you have a dog or a small child with you. I have no doubt that dog will try to attack somebody again. We were lucky, he didn't bite my dog, but I'm not sure if it's because he didn't try or didn't have time. Just be careful out there.
