Got to the Tilton around 7:30 or 8:00 this morning. Didn't get water temperature...but willing to bet it was quite a bit warmer than the air temperature was. It was fairly chilly and even had to break out the wool gloves and beanie.

Started tossing around a #16 BH nymph similar to a "Fuzzball" on a 10' leader and tippet. Worked my way north (upstream). Wasn't familiar with this stretch of the Tilton, but did find some nice runs and pools for future reference. Tried multiple techniques (i.e.- swing, dead-drift, etc.), however found casting to the nine o'clock and three o'clock and swinging the fly into seams and riffles was the most productive.

The day was slow, only caught maybe ten rainbows ranging anywhere from 6" to just over 13". All native's were released with one hatchery finding its way into my creel.

Turned out to be a nice day on the water. Good times...

Yea, for the tilton that is slow. The last and only time I've ever fished it I caught 30 fish, all hatchery from ten to 19". But ten fish in a day aint bad at all, and they're a bit more particular for flies there, they crash spinners and corkies.

@natetreat-
Anytime I am near the holes at the bridge, I see quite a few people just killin' 'em. The unfortunate part is they drag out way, way more than their limit(s). Specifically, when they're catching the larger fish. Not supposed to keep more than one over 12". Mind you, I don't run over to them and measure them, but you can easily tell a 13" fish from a 10" fish at 50 meters. Surprisingly, I don't do well with the hatchery fish. The natives seem to appreciate my flies...but the plants sure don't. Oh, well...it's all fun and games, and I don't need many fish for the grill.

One thing I will say about the Tilton. Even though it's a put and take fishery, there are lots of natives and I have a blast trying to figure out where they might be hiding and what they'll hit on. I have been fly fishing on and off for a couple years now, and this river seems to be a good one for me to learn on and refine my techniques.
