We decided to do some bank fishing on the Sol Duc. There were fish in the adult trap, and one fish on the 'bank'. There were lots of fish jumping too. Unfortunately, there isn't really a 'bank' and even with only ~8 people there, it was REALLY CROWDED. I found out that many of the locals don't even attempt to floss, they straight up snag. Big heavy spinners dragged in front of, and through, the mouth of the hatchery creek. One guy was even sitting there with just a hook, using his hand to lower it in the water and snag fish as they went by (I don't even know why he had a pole with a reel, should have just been using a beer can!) He managed a small trout, in the tail. Anyways, we travelled down the bank a bit, and found a spot we could cast of of a few trees that were up against the bank. Didn't get a single hit (or floss since that's what drift fishing is most of the time) River level was pretty high since there was a LOT of rain the previous two days.

Bummer to make it out that far and get goose egged. It has been a tough year for many (most?) of us.

Not a big deal. We were planning to hit a river, and just picked a random one. Without having ever fished there before, and with how high the water was, I'm not really too worried about it. The Puyallup pissed me off this year though. It was just a bonus stop along the way after staying at Quinault lake for 2 days/nights.

Dang Quinalt Lake? U shoulda hit the Hump! Maybe next time keep it in mind. That river has some good fishing when it is in the right shape. Nice to have a couple days at Lake Quinalt. Fun visiting the big trees.
