On the way home from a business appointment in Everett I hit the Stilly for a few hours this afternoon. The water looked great, weather was good and I more or less had the stream to myself. I guess that should say something, there should be a number of regulars working the river and it was a ghost town out there. I fished about a mile and a half of river primarily using drift gear, # 2 hook, various colors of yarn and small corkies and nobody was home. I also threw spinners at a deep run that often holds early staging fish with only a dolly to show for my efforts. Lots of hiking, wading and casting but no fish and on that note, I did not see a single fish jump. The river should be packed with lock jawed fish right now. The river has been up a couple times and the higher water should have pulled fish in but I didn’t see any sign of life. Oh well, they will come…and it was better than mowing the lawn!
