Been hitting this lake often as it is right in the heart of my neighborhood. Went out to Hilton about two months ago when we had that unusual warm weather and picked up some nice bass. Caught three small ones that day on my topwater zara spook, got tired of catching the small ones so I switched up to a texas rigged yamamoto kreature bait, pulled in three more nice bass ranging 1 1/2 to 2 pounders. It was nice catching some bass in early february. Then reality kicked in and the cold weather returned, a few fishing trips in february and into march were very slow, although I picked up a few here and there. Finally our warm weather has returned and the lake has become very active again. Fished Hilton on Wednesday the 20th and pulled in a real nice 2 plus pounder on a texas rigged yamamoto hula grub. I also caught three more that day but they were smaller fish. I pulled that two pounder out of some weeds that were floating on the surface right off the little bridge on the lake. While on the bridge I saw a really nice 4lb or maybe even 5lb bass swimming on by. Hopefully this weather stays warm so the spawn can start, can't wait to get out there and do some sight fishing. Anyways, I will post some more reports when I have time, I'm trying to go fish Lake Ballinger hopefully and then maybe Goodwin. Keep on Bassin!! Always catch and release at this lake please. A little side note for you trout fisherman out there. I haven't caught a trout out of Hilton since my last report way back in 2003. I think there were some triploids stocked in the lake but I haven't caught any since, nor have I heard of any trout caught out of there in years. Heard rumors that Hilton maybe being stocked with trout but it's becoming a better bass pond every year and the trout are probably just going to be eaten by the bass. Email me for any questions.
