so i got some info form some locals to go to the calawah river to fish, i get down to the hatchery and i walked about 1/2 mile to the fishing hole, and i get there and i was just completely amazed at how clear the water is, and how many steelheads are chillin in the river. No lie, there must of been 600 steelheads scattered throughout the river!. so i started to float a bobber with jigs, and nothing worked. I would literally drift throught a school of a 100 steelies and the would move around my setup up and then swim back into the school. It was so frusturating, and so i switched to just a hook and a single egg with 4lb flouro, and they still would not even take it. the fish were spooked. it was the craziest thing to see this fish not take anything. I tried evertying in my tackle box for 3 days and only got 1 fish. It as frusturating, but awesome to see that many fish. anywho.....good luck to anyone he can pull a fish outta there.

Summer Steelhead fishing in clear water is strictly an early morning affair. Sunrise to the sun on the water, if no fish you might as well go home after that. I've had the same frustrations, but it is still exciting to see that many fish!
