Went fishing with guide Zach Hancock of Rogue Wilderness Adventures. We were fishing yarn balls, side drifting out of a drift boat. Aaron and I pounded the water for a full day trip with no luck. Had a couple on but just couldn't land them. Zach tells me it's been a good winter run, but just wasn't our day. Interesting note, unlike Washington steelhead, these hatchery fish arrive in late Jan to Feb on the lower Oregon rivers, giving anglers a place to target healthy hatchery fish that reach 20 pounds in this system. Beautiful river by the way, kind of reminded me of the Satsop. FYI, the hatchery produces almost one million salmon and steelhead fish yearly.
