I went out to the Bogy early Saturday morning. (just below the rearing ponds) I was pleased to find that I wasn't fighting to get a spot. I followed a couple of guys in that said that they had been there before. I just set up next to them and waited for some light. Once day break happened it was awesome. There were about 40 to 50 fishermen spread over several hundred yards on either side of the river. Everyone was catching fish. I saw some guys leaving around 11am because they both of them had caught their limit (3). Around lunch time I decided to take a break and walk the bank checking out everyones catch. Most everyone had at least one strung up. I started asking what they were catching on and they ran the gammet. Appearantly everything worked. Corky and yarn, only corky, only yarn, any color (green, orange, pink, yellow), corky and shrimp, yarn and shrimp, corky and eggs, only eggs. Not many people floating jigs. Mainly eggs. I personally didn't catch anything, but the river was HOT for Steelies. Wish I lived closer. I'm new to Steelhead fishing so I can't be too disapointed, but I learned a lot.

Keep the faith!!!! It takes some time to put all the puzzle pieces together, but once you do look out!!! It took me 4 years to catch my first steelhead. Then another 2-3 seasons to put rest of the puzzle together.Remember to be flexible, observant and willing to change the way you fish.I love to see new guys and gals catch fish and learn the what, whys, whens and wheres of steelheading.Tight lines and take a kid fishing.

Hey,
Your a better man than most of us out there. I know the frustration and sometimes anger when everyone is catching fish but me. I try to emulate what others are doing but still nothing. Its good to see such positive attitude from you and maybe I can learn that. Jens you need to learn that too, I know deep inside you too have some serious anger issues. Thanks for sharing such positive report. I know it will be an exciting feeling when you catch your first steely, I'm waiting for mine too.

I'll be fishing the snoqualmie this week. I'm sure its just a matter of time. To tell the truth, I think I was having trouble distiguishing the bottom bounce from a bite. I will be paying more attention to that from here on out.

If you are going to fish the Snoqualmie go down and fish the cable hole.If you are not familiar with where that is at here gos. It is the next hole down from the back eddy [the mouth of Tokul creek].To get there drive down past the back eddy to the boat launch on your left.Park and walk the trail back up the river. The water in this hole are nice from the tail out to the sand bar on the top.Don't be afraid to fish close in like 10 to 15 feet out, also watch for fish rolling. Also see what the rest of the crowd is throwing some days drifting is hot and some days its a bobber bite. Some days its both.Good luck Iam going to try and get down there next monday morning.

Give it a lot of KFC and it will happen. Landed my first steelheads with a guided trip on the Cowlitz River drift fronting the trout hatchery with Talltailsguideservice.com Bonner Daniels and it was a rush. I swear my heart rate was going crazy. Fresh winters sure know how to dance! Dont know if this helps with knowing if a steelhead bits but look for a slight or sharp tug. I have had both type of takes. When you set the hook and it's a steelhead, it will answer! Fish ON!
