Met up with goin_postal early and fished below the boat launch. We found a nice opening to fish and we had very high expectations today since we coaxed our bosses into letting us have the day off. Our smiley faces slowly turned upside down thru out the morning with zero fish. Gp did have something on for a minute or so, maybe a Cutt or Whitefish? Anyways, he lost it when it swam into some grass. Of course the word on the river was, "Man, you guys should have been here yesterday, everyone was getting limits." ACKKKK!! I seen maybe 3 fish all morning on stringers. All were gorgeous dime bright. We decide to head up to Barrier thinking all the fish cruised upriver. We were shocked to find no one fishing. 1 boat anchored and 2 guys were fishing along the shore. No one was even fishing at the spillway. We fished above the boat launch for an hour or so. Gp decided to head back down to Blue Creek while I decided to mess around with spinners. And of course as soon as Gp leaves a monster Chrome engulfs my Vibrax spinner. I think I was just so mesmerized without catching anything all day, this fish took me by surprise and jumped, rolled and spit the hook. Unbelievable but believable. Tips for you guys who want to head to Blue Creek: bring lots of pre-tied leaders. Do not be afraid to move to different spots. Until next time...
yes it will happen soon... i need to get out on a river soon im getting that itch. i havent been since i seen you guys last. shoot me a message next time you plan on going somewhere dude
Awe bro! Sorry it didn't work out for you. Apparently the guy who posted the report about Blue Creek had a day to remember (wow!). We're headed to the Nooch (Wynoochee) Saturday.
If you haven t try Little red rubber egg above hook with egg loop. Cinch down small tuffs of yarn: Hot pink and peach or orange tipped with shrimp smelly jelly. Clear water think small. Good Luck!
Donman, good luck on the Nooch. I floated it last year and it's got some awesome looking holes. Of course, I didn't catch anything. Jay7- I bought a pack of ez eggs, is this what you mean or to use just a singular egg with tufts of yarn? Brian, i'll be out of town the next 2 weekends- fishing the Lewis xmas weekend..I know gp and kinghunter will be chasing something silver..lucky bstrds - lol
Water fished in at the time was 4-5' visibility, running high , temp was in high 30's to then later mid 40's. Day was clear and very very cold! Small weight on drift setup in slow / soft water 10-25 ft from shore. At the time hot pink with lighter color was the winner.
Man, good try guys. I am a newby steelheader also. Can't wait to try Blue Creek out. I know it will be crowded but at least I might catch a steelhead while actually targeting them. Thanks for the report J-dog. Hit me up with a PM next time you GP/king head down there.
