I went down tonight to the bridge by Mc Alder elementary. Its not so cold if you dress for it. Still frozen for the first few steps in but water wasnt that bad. It was really clear. I shined my light in and saw bottom all around me. I charged up my corkie and tossed it into an area I know fish usually are holding. I felt my weight bouncing off the bottom and nothing. Again and again I tossed it out into the darkness only to feel it hitting the rocks then draggin some sand then back into the rocks again. No bites at all. Then my phone rings. My wife, man dont she know Im fishing. Ok hun Ill pick up laundry soap and some finger nail polish remover for ya. Back to fishing I go. Then to my surprise wham! I got a huge hit. But my pole didnt move a bit. I kicked my leg back and bout knocked that chum clean outta the water. Scared the hell outta me. I wasnt looking down so I didnt see him. Thing was ugly all spawned out looking like death warmed over. Even after I kicked it outta panic it just sat there for a min and swam away all slow. I stayed out there for about 2 1/2 hours and nothing. Im gonna try again in the morning and see if I get some better luck.

LOL- I think our women don't understand about the no calling while fishing! I tried explaining that to mine and all I got back was my face being burned off from her evil stare! Thanks for the report, at least you had something on your line.

Man, that's too funny about the call from the wife. I usually get, "what are you doing? followed by, are you fishing (again)?" I do tell the truth. No bad karma wanted. At least she didn't ask for the box of special napkins.

LOL, just don't have any chum nightmares.

I remember being out once when I was jigging for squid
by myself on a private dock at night.

There was one light above the water so it was easy to see in the water but otherwaise it was totally dark and quiet.

I couldn't see any squid so I was staring hard into the water.
There was no rail or anything on the dock so my vision was concentrated right in front of me just a couple feet down.

Then Maybe 3 feet down RIGHT in my field of vision a monstrous shape went hauling by.
I literally jumped backwards out of shock!
Then the damn thing popped its head up and barked at me. It was a seal.

Freaked me out so bad I only jigged for maybe another 5 minutes and left. It swam thru that lighted area a couple more times and even though I knew what it was it still gave me the creeps.

No sooner did I leave than the seal hopped up onto the dock to rest.
No wonder LOL. Damn seals....
