I am new to this site, but really enjoy the info provided. So my brother and I went out to the Bogy for his birthday yesterday!!We got there at 8am and the parking lot at the hatchery was empty. There was a moment of panick,we drove along way and it is really freakin cold. This is going to be really good or really bad! Well only one way to find out if the fish are in.We walked down the trail and had the entire hatchery hole to ourselves. There were guys and boats on the other side, but nobody on our side.I went strait to the tail end of the hole and started pitching a bobber and my home made jigs in pink and white with a chunk of prawn.Within half an hour bang bobber down.I managed to lose that fish at my feet, not one of my better moves.Maybe twenty min. later I hook the fish in the picture # 1.My brother is now wanting one of my jigs and some prawns!! I give in since it is his birthday. He hooks up before I even get in the water again!!! This is insane steelheading is not supposed to be like this. The guys across from us are not hooking up and are now giving us flack, it was great. So long story short my brother hooks one more and loses it and I hook and land 3 more keeping 2 total. This makes 2 years in a row my little brother has caught a steelhead on his b-day [last year was on the Snoqualmie] it must be nice.So if any of you get a chance inthe next couple weeks take road trip to Forks the fish are in.Tight lines and take a kid fishin.

Good stuff, I'm probably going there this weekend. Hopefully it stays nice and doesn't rain much and make the river all muddy.

way to go, nothing like making your own jigs and having those be the only thing working!! you must have done something right.

The Bogy is on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula near Forks.Try to google Forks and steelhead it should give you a good place to start.

There should also be a map on another site, I think it's one of the guides sites that shows the better spots on the Bogey and Calawah River to fish and how to get to the spots.

Is the hatchery at the end of Bogachiel Way or near the state park? Are the Steelies running strong right now? I mean would it be worth it to make the trip from Seattle to fish this river?

The hatchery rearing ponds is at bogachiel way and from what I've seen from another site, guides have been saying right now is a good time to go, it should be good for hatchery fish for the next couple weeks.

My brother drove from North Bend which is almost 4hrs one way! I live almost an hour and a half away. The fishing can be that good.Just remember that the weekends can be really crowded.

Nice report. I am, originally, from Forks. We used to boat the Bogey a lot back in the late 70's and through the 80's. After a bit, there were so many boats that we just said to heck with it. Perhaps we were jaded, but it sucked. It got down to where we would only boat it on Christmas day and would have the river to ourselves. Then, that changed, as well, and there would be 20 boats in there on a given Christmas. Easier than trying to launch the boat and all was to just walked down to the hatchery hole. We had days down there where we we hook maybe 15 fish, sometimes three in three casts.
Not to come on here and complain, if taken as such, but this post made me miss home and the fishing that I grew up with. Thanks for the report:)
