Almost didn't go out, it rained hard all morning and then it quit raining and the sun peeked thru the clouds, so barb and I decided we had better go, or we would be kicking ourselves later.
Put the boat in at Couse Creek on the Snake in Hell's Canyon, and went to a favorite stretch of water, put the lines in at about 3:30 pm, toward the end of the drift Barbs rod went down, and she was into a nice steelie, and wouldn't you know it, a big Hell's Canyon tour boat with about 40 people on board, pulled up near us when the captian saw that Barb had a Steelhead on, well Barb played the fish until it laid on it's side and then I netted it without knocking it off, at that point the tour boat started blowing his horn, and the tourist were cheering, we held the Steelhead up several times at their request, so they could take pictures. Boy, you never know what is going to take place on the river, it was not a very big Steelhead , but it created a lot of excitement.
We went to the head of the run, and put the lines back in, in about ten minutes my rod went down, and it was another Steelhead on, this time without spectators, this one was a small five pounder, but it put up a good fight. A lot of big dark clouds started rolling in, so we decided to call it quits for the day, can hardly wait to get back out there, the Steelhead are really stacked in, both the Snake and Clearwater, so if you want to catch a Steelhead now is the time.
