Alright, so this is actually the first time I've ever salmon fished in the river. It was a wild adventure. I went with my usual and best fishing bud; we've been firends since the 9th grade. We drove around the Kent area along the river and found a pretty primo spot that hadn't been taken. Saw A LOT of salmon rolling over, jumping out of the water...it was pure amazement. Anyway, on our way down, I knew walking down the bank was a drop off pretty much, but I slipped on the laid down grass and slide down like I was on a water slide into the river, tackle and all, except the rod. So thats how my day started. We were cracking up laughing so hard, it was fun. Well about a half hour later I hook up with a salmon, using a spinner roostertail. My set up is VERY limited to lake trout fishing. I mean the rod I was using was a ultra light rod, Line was 8 lb test I think. So i knew if I had one on it was gonna have to play. Well little did I know these things play, and he played and he played for about 20 minutes before I realized, the fish pulled down and snagged himself on something underneath and I lost it. It was a fun fight! I didn't lose my spinner though...one of the treble hooks broke, so now I have double hook (haha) but I still have my spinner. It was getting to be dusk so we took off. But that was fun! First time hooking up. Using the ultralight rod I'm glad it held up, it was bext over pretty good. I'll be out for sure real soon!
