A day or so late but here it is, fished the Forks area on Saturday. The weather was interesting, had everything threw at us except a hurricane (close but a hurricane requires warm weather). Made casts in the Sol Duc (low and clear), the Bogachiel (low and a little off color), the Quillayute (looked good) and the Hoh (looked great). The trip was kind of a family drive/steelheading trip and with the weather being what it was there was more family drive time than steelheading. Not sure whether or not it was a good or bad decision but leaving home I had decided to fish float and jig or float and eggs combos (I will admit that just in case an adjustment in technique was required I did have multiple rods in the car) The “good” was that I did have my float sink out immediately followed by vigorous splashing 5 times. The “bad” was the wind. It was blowing so hard that my line had a major belly in it I was having trouble getting the hook to stick. While fishing the Bogie I did have a solid hookup on a nice bright fish but ultimately lost it to a pile of logs in the river. Ok it was one log but…

All the fish were on a float/jig combo, with pink and cerise being the way to go. As noted earlier I had also planned to fish eggs but I didn’t find them until I was unpacking the car Sunday morning. I suspect that having had the eggs while on the water would have stacked the odds on my side. In spite of no official fish we had a great family day, saw some huge elk, quite a few eagles, a “Big Cedar” tree, some beautiful scenery and lots of snow and hail.
